To date, 5 West Virginia county school systems are under the control of the State Department of Education for failing to meet performance standards. Education in the state is on a decline, which is a factor in the state’s current, systematic loss of skilled professionals, who wish for their children to have the benefit of a world-class educational system. A charter school and the boost that a charter school would give to neighboring traditional schools have the potential to set West Virginia on the fast track to such an educational system, right here at home.
