West Virginia Needs Charter Schools

To date, 5 West Virginia county school systems are under the control of the State Department of Education for failing to meet performance standards. Education in the state is on a decline, which is a factor in the state’s current, systematic loss of skilled professionals, who wish for their children to have the benefit of a world-class educational system. A charter school and the boost that a charter school would give to neighboring traditional schools have the potential to set West Virginia on the fast track to such an educational system, right here at home. As a public institution, this opportunity for a personalized education would be available to each and every student interested in it, not just those who can afford private schools or who have parents willing and able to home school them.
